Shubman Gill continued his red-hot form as he scored a massive 58-ball 101 in the match between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrises Hyderabad (SRH) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season 6 on Monday at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
SRH won the toss and chose to bowl first, Gill gave GT a quick-fire start as he reached his half-century in just 22 balls. Ultimately, the 22-year-old completed his century in 58 balls with the help of 13 fours and one six at a gigantic strike rate of 174.
Gill has now scored a century in Test, One Day International, T20 international and in IPL. Coincidently, three [Test, T20i and IPL] have come to Ahmedabad. He has three ODI centuries this year, including a double hundred, but has yet to play an ODI at the venue since the start of this year.
With his maiden hundred in the competition, Gill has now become the first GT player in IPL history to score a century. No GT player scored a century last year, despite their title-winning campaign.
Moreover, Gill is now the second leading runscorer in the IPL with 576 runs in 13 innings, only behind the Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis who has 631 runs in 12 innings.
GT set the target of 189 runs for SRH. While chasing the target, SRH had an early collapse and they were batting at 66/7 in 10 overs at the time this story was published.
GT is currently at the top of the IPL points table with 16 points and with a win over SRH, they would extend their lead by 3 points over second-place CSK who have 15 points in 13 matches.
Meanwhile, SRH sits at the ninth position in the points table in 11 matches.
